Jon H. Barber was born and raised in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He graduated from Ohio University in 1970, and then entered the United States Army, serving as a logistician in Kentucky. Upon his release from active duty, he enrolled in Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Ala. He graduated in 1976 and returned to Pennsylvania, where he was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1976.

He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1977. Prior to practicing in Florida, he served as a Directing Attorney for an Office for Public Advocacy Regional Office in Kentucky. In 1981, he moved to Florida and became a partner in the law firm of Growney, McKeown & Barber, P.A. He is a certified Family Law Mediator.

Mary McKeown, Attorney at Law

H. Mary McKeown was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., and raised in St. Petersburg. She began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the 6th Judicial Circuit, working in St. Petersburg and Clearwater.

She is currently a partner in the law firm of Growney, McKeown & Barber, P.A. and an associate in the law firm of Gathings Law. She has been an adjunct professor at Stetson College of Law, teaching trial advocacy since 1991.

Mary has been active in the community, through her involvement as a volunteer focusing on children's issues, for many years.

Her involvement includes serving as a Girl Scout leader from 1991 through 2000, and now serving as a Board Member for the Suncoast Girl Scout Council; Guardian Ad Litem Program, The Child Welfare Standard and Training Council, 1991-1998, Chairperson, 1995-1998; The Nominee Qualifications Review Committee for the Health and Human Services Board, District 5, 1992-2000; The Study Commission on Child Welfare, 1990-1991, The Governor's Drug Policy Task Force, Cocaine Babies Subcommittee, 1989-1990; The Governor's Expert Team for the Protection of Children, chair, February-March 1989.
